Q: WHAT IS CHIMERSTRY?
A: Chimerstry is a Discipline of subtle illusions and misdirection. It isn't Obtenebration. It isn't Obfuscate. It isn't Quietus, or any other Discipline, and attempts to use it as such will usually fail.

Q: CAN I MAKE MYSELF INVISIBLE AND COMPLETELY SILENT WITH CHIMERSTRY?
A: No, Chimerstry can't make things "invisible". However, you can still hide things with it... for example, a Ravnos can create a Chimerical wall to hide behind (assuming no-one is looking while the wall is created).

Q: CAN AUSPEX BE USED TO RESIST 'HORRID REALITY'?
A: Yes, assuming the Auspex user has Heightened Senses active and has Auspex of at least 5. If the Chimerstry user's level of Chimerstry is lower than the Auspex user's level of Auspex, the Horrid Reality attempt fails automatically. Otherwise, both players must make a contested rolls in the manner of Auspex vs Obfuscate (see Vampire: the Masquerade page 152)

Q: CAN 'HORRID REALITY' BE USED TO 'STAKE' SOMEONE?
A: Yes, though the chosen illusion must be appropriate to that person becoming staked. Additionally, the Chimerstry user must score at least three damage with the use of Horrid Reality. Once the Horrid Reality wears off (at the end of the scene), the victim will no longer be staked by Horrid Reality (of course, by then they might already be _really_ staked...).

Q: CAN OTHER PEOPLE SEE THE EFFECTS OF 'HORRID REALITY'?
A: Yes, though they do not suffer any ill effects from it, and are free to disbelieve it if the illusion is blatant. The victim, of course, will not disbelieve it and still suffers the damage unless he has an Auspex rating of at least 5.

Q: CAN SOMEONE WALK OVER A CHIMERICAL BRIDGE?
A: No. It's just an illusion, and has no actual mass. Someone walking over an illusionary bridge will fall through it.

Q: IF A MAGE HAS A MINDSHIELD UP, WILL THIS PROTECT HIM FROM CHIMERSTRY?
A: If the Mage has more dots in Mind than the vampire has in Chimerstry, yes.
Otherwise, no. If the scores are tied, the Mage compares the amount of successes he has on his Mind Shield to the Ravnos' Manipulation + Subterfuge roll.

Q: DOES AN AUSPEX USER HAVE TO HAVE IT 'ON' TO SEE THROUGH ILLUSIONS?
A: Yes.

Q: IF A VAMPIRE WITH 'PERMANENCY' CREATES AN ILLUSION THEN DIES, DOES THE ILLUSION GO AWAY?
A: No, the Blood Points spent on making the illusion permanent allow it to exist independently of its owner.

Q: HOW DOES AN ILLUSION GET DISSOLVED?
A: To be dissolved, an illusion has to do something that defies common sense and creates disbelief. For example, putting your hand through an illusionary wall would cause that wall to dissolve.

Q: UH, OKAY, BUT HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHAT CAUSES DISBELIEF OR NOT?
A: Common sense. Someone pulling an illusionary knife from a pocket is reasonable. Pulling a rocketlauncher from a pocket is not, and thus disbelievable. Likewise, summoning up sunlight at midnight isn't going to be credible unless the victim has totally lost his or her sense of time. NOTE: Horrid Reality can not be disbelieved by the victim.

Q: BUT SAY SOMEONE CREATES A REALLY POWERFUL WALL ILLUSION THAT MESSES UP THE SENSES SO THAT IT CAN'T BE DISBELIEVED BY SOMEONE PUTTING THEIR HAND THROUGH IT...
A: Simply put, wall illusions that defy the senses to that extent are not simple illusions, but immensely complex ones that are created by multiple overlapping illusions or Elder level Disciplines.

Q: CAN I CREATE A COMPLETELY DISBELIEVABLE ILLUSION IN MY HAVEN SO THAT IT CAN BE DISBELIEVED AND DISSOLVED IF BREAKS IN?
A: Yes.

Q: CAN A VAMPIRE WITH AUSPEX 5 AND CHIMERSTRY 5 CREATE ILLUSIONS IN THE ASTRAL PLANE?
A: In theory, yes. It's an involved process, however.

Q: CAN I USE CHIMERSTRY TO CREATE A "PICTURE" THAT I CAN HIDE OVER A SCENE? AN ALLEY, FOR EXAMPLE?
A: It's possible, but that kind of illusion would be extremely difficult to maintain and extremely fragile. It would be much easier to hide the scene in the alley by making a very loud and large truck appear from around the corner and stop in front of it.

Q: HORRID REALITY STATES IN V:TM THAT IT ONLY EFFECTS THE PERSON BEING ATTACKED, BUT IN RAVNOS REVISED IT IMPLIES THAT ANYONE CAN SEE IT. WHAT'S THE DEAL?
A: Okay, we will go by the most recent rules, circa Ravnos Revised. I think that what they meant in V:tM they meant that it only effects (ie DAMAGES) the person being attacked.
